Going globalLocalization
Adapting product, pricing, messaging and operations to local culture and regulation while keeping the brand's core identity intact.
Where this sits
Taking a brand abroad is not simply replicating the model. It is a question of choosing the market, the entry model and — above all — the right partner.
In practice
Localization is a decision about what may change and what may not — and that boundary has to be set by the brand owner before the first market, not negotiated market by market afterwards.
Product, pricing, portion, channel and message are usually adaptable. The elements that carry the promise — the standards a customer would notice, the operating disciplines that make quality repeatable — usually are not. Systems that leave the line undefined end up with a different brand in every country and no system at all.
